Lead Technical Writer

As a lead Technical Documentation Writer, you will create and manage high-quality documentation that helps users understand and utilize complex software products with ease. Your role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, and customer support, to create clear, concise, and user-focused content. You will guide users to achieve their objectives (JTBD) with minimal steps and ensure that the documentation is visually informative, accessible, and optimized for SEO.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive product documentation, including user guides, setup manuals, FAQs, troubleshooting guides, release notes, and online help.
  • Break down complex technical concepts into simple, actionable steps that are easy to understand.
  • Create and manage visual content (screenshots, videos) with proper annotations and numbering for seamless user guidance.
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and customer support to gather information and ensure the accuracy and clarity of documentation.
  • Ensure consistency in UI terminology and error messages, contributing to the overall product usability.
  • Actively incorporate user feedback and continuously update documentation to meet evolving customer needs.
  • Mentor junior writers, providing guidance on documentation best practices, processes, and formats.
  • Research and adopt new tools and techniques for efficient documentation management.
  • Optimize documentation content following SEO best practices to improve visibility and engagement.
  • Track and evaluate the success of documentation using user feedback and performance metrics, and implement improvements accordingly.

Requirements:

  • 4+ years of experience leading product documentation efforts for B2B SaaS or software products.
  • Strong writing skills with a focus on creating user-friendly, concise, and structured documents for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with content management systems and familiarity with SEO best practices for documentation.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML, CSS, and familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines under time constraints.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to teamwork.
  • University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
